Somewhere in the 19th century, a British tourist and researcher found out that ppl in Istanbul in the vicinity of the Royal hill (Sultanahmet) are getting water from holes made in the floors of their houses.
Knowing it's in fact a rocky hill it seemed very strange to him. Being an adventurer, he took candles and ropes and let himself down, into one of those "domestic wells".
This is what he found, A huge water cistern (bigger than a couple of football fields), built during the times of Iustinian, the Byzantine emperor, using parts and ruins of old greek temples.
If you are adventurous enough, you should know there are more of them, undiscovered to this day!
