Coming & Going
Air
Situated 20km south of the city centre, Launceston's small airport has frequent flights to Melbourne as well as Sydney, the Latrobe Valley in Victoria and Hobart. Rex, Qantas and Virgin Blue all fly into Launceston.
The airport shuttle bus (tel: 0500 512 009) connects with all flights and will pick up and drop off at hostels. The one-way fare is $10.
Bus
Buses operate to destinations throughout Tasmania. TassieLink (website: www.tigerline.com.au; tel: 1300 300 520) coaches arrive and depart from the terminal at 101 George Street in the city centre. The Redline (website: www.tasredline.com; tel: 1300 360 000) coach terminal is at 18 Charles Street.
Local transport
Launceston has a fairly comprehensive bus network with one-way fares ranging from $1.40-3.20. A day pass costs $3.60. The main drawback is that buses stop running at around 7pm, however most things in Launceston are centrally located and it's unlikely that you'll need to use the bus.
