The Budget Traveller's Guide to Sleeping in Airports

The Budget Traveller's Guide to Sleeping in Airports: "For travellers who are REALLY on a budget and are looking for a way to skim a few bucks off their travel expenses, why not consider sleeping in an airport? Many airports are actually better than local lodging. And to top it off - IT'S FREE! Your friends and family may look at you funny when you return with your airport stories, but that's only part of the fun. So now, sit back....get out your travel itinerary and plan which airports you're going to sleep in (or avoid altogether) during your next trip.

One Bag (all about packing, luggage, and travelling light)

One Bag (all about packing, luggage, and travelling light): "There's no question: overpacking easily heads the list of biggest travel mistakes. Thus this Web site, offering exhaustive (some might say exhausting) detail on the art of travelling light, living for an indefinite period of time out of a single (carryon-sized) bag.

My own lifestyle over the years has always involved a great deal of travel, for both business and pleasure. Like most seasoned travellers, I have found that the lighter my burden, the more pleasant my journey. Consequently (and unsurprisingly, given my scientific/engineering background), I have thought a lot about the subject, read extensively on the issues, even attended seminars on packing techniques. Most important, I have tried all this stuff out, experimenting with a variety of solutions in many cases. This Web site affords me an opportunity to share the resulting opinions (and, I hope, save you a lot of trouble repeating my mistakes)."

Express Rail Link (ERL) to KLIA(Kuala Lumpur International Airport) : journeymalaysia.com

Express Rail Link (ERL) to KLIA(Kuala Lumpur International Airport) : journeymalaysia.com: "Transportation - trains, light rail transits, monorails

ERL(Express Rail Link) - KL International Airport, Cyberjaya, Putrajaya

ERL is the fastest way of getting to KLIA from KL centre. It takes a mere 30min to the airport as compared to 55min by car. Great when you're short of time, and if taxi fares are out of your budget!

The Express Rail links the KLSentral with KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport). The check-in and ticket counter are on Level 1 of the KLSentral complex and also at Level 1 of the KLIA complex. Flight passengers are also able to check-in their baggages at the check-in counter just like you would at the airport. The baggage will be tagged to your flight destination.

OKAY. Locating the ERL ticketing counters at the airport is a nightmare! The signs directing passengers to the ekspress rail counters are atrocious so follow these instructions carefully otherwise you'll be spending many hours searching for the counters. From the departure and arrival halls, follow the signs for KLIA express. Take the glass lifts on the far side which has KLIA express stickers pasted on the doors. This is important as only this lift will take you to the correct side of the building on Level 1 where the ERL counters are.

If you require a hassle free trip, you can also include a limousine transfers with the package for RM100 per person per way(add RM30 for 2nd passenger). Log into www.eXKL.com or call for reservations at (6)03 2274 6266 (Reservation centre opens from 6am-12midnight only). Alternatively, enquire at your hotel (Available at KL hotels only)

There are 2 KLIA express rail trains and schedules :-

1. a non-stop direct train from KL Sentral to KLIA -called the KLIA Express

2. a transit train which stops at Putrajaya & Cyberjaya enroute to KLIA called the KLIAtransit"

Drag Bag

i bought this bag today!!!

Drag Bag: "Whether you’re globe trotting around the world, commuting from the suburbs to the city, trekking along the streets of San Francisco or the plains of the Serengeti, don’t leave home without this bag.

The Drag Bag Streetwinder is perfection in style, form and function. I have a graveyard full of bags that either couldn’t survive the wear and tear or caused me extreme pain when I carried them fully loaded. Believe me when I say this is one tough, versatile bag."

Travel Tips

Gadget Travel Tips

1.You can plug in your notebook in business and first class on most domestic and international flights, but check whether you need a universal airline adaptor (about $180 to $300) before you board. The adaptor is really a new cord with a special plug that you use instead of your notebook's regular cord.

2. Many notebook users tend to pack a wireless mouse when travelling, but unless you're going to be sitting down at a desk for a while, leave it at home. Sitting in airport lounges or typing on your lap is easier without a mouse.

3. Rather than packing a handful of adaptors for all your gadgets, pack a powerboard with four or five outlets and just one adaptor.

4. Mobile phones operate on different frequencies in different countries. Check if your phone will work in the country you are visiting at www.gsmworld.com/roaming.

A quad-band phone will work on the four main GSM frequencies and is your best bet if you travel all over the place. However, a GSM phone will not work on a 3G network - you'll need a dedicated 3G handset.

5. If ironing your clothes at the other end seems like way too much trouble, think about a portable clothes steamer (about $60 from www.gogogear.com.au). Less effort than ironing with similar results."
